Era la metà del Settecento quando il naturalista Linneo collocò definitivamente l’uomo nel regno animale, e la metà dell’Ottocento quando Charles Darwin dimostrò che noi animali siamo tutti parenti. Stiamo infatti tutti, seppure appollaiati su rami differenti, sullo stesso albero della vita. Facciamocene una ragione – ci esorta l’etologo Mainardi – e, tra l’altro, scopriremo che si tratta di una splendida ragione. Basta guardare un bambino che gioca in un prato col suo cane: non sono nemmeno parenti stretti – l’uno è un primate, l’altro è un ex lupo – eppure sono tutti e due esseri sociali e intelligenti. Il loro rapporto è naturale, sprizzano empatia. Comunque, anche se si tratta di noi e di loro, siamo pur sempre noi che guardiamo loro e i nostri occhi dovrebbero essere sempre liberi da pregiudizi, come quelli di un bambino. Ed è proprio questa purezza di sguardo che si ritrova in queste cento piccole grandi storie di animali. Come ormai i suoi fedelissimi hanno imparato, oltre a essere un importante e stimato uomo di scienza, Mainardi è anche un appassionato narratore e in “Noi e loro” ci regala tante storie, insieme a curiosità, saggezze, scoperte piccole e meno piccole. Ritratti di animali selvatici, domestici e perfino immaginari, che svelano aspetti sconosciuti e insoliti. Con il garbo e l’ironia di sempre, Mainardi ci insegna comprensione, rispetto e amore verso i nostri amici animali, ricordandoci che cos’è il piacere della lettura. Read more
