À nos débuts en ornithologie, les lieux aménagés spécialement pour les oiseaux étaient plutôt rares. Pour les observer, nous devions nous déplacer vers leur habitat naturel : forêts, marais ou prairies. Depuis, les choses ont bien changé.
Aujourd’hui, que nous soyons débutants ou mordus d’ornithologie, en plus des sites aménagés spécialement pour l’observation des oiseaux, on nous offre un vaste choix de mangeoires, de nichoirs, d’abreuvoirs et de bains d’oiseaux. L’aménagement de nos cours se complète souvent par la plantation d’arbustes, d’arbres fruitiers et de
fleurs pouvant attirer ces charmants visiteurs, qui sont par ailleurs de grands consommateurs d’insectes.
Il est donc intéressant de penser à eux lorsqu’on planifie notre aménagement paysager. Si vous vous intéressez déjà aux oiseaux, vous avez probablement apporté des modifications à votre cour et, tout comme nous, vous regrettez de ne pas les avoir prévues à l’origine, la croissance des arbres et arbustes s’effectuant lentement. On trouve sur le marché de nombreux végétaux qui attirent la gent ailée, tout en créant un jardin des plus enviables.
Au Québec, les amateurs d’oiseaux dépensent annuellement des sommes considérables pour attirer les oiseaux dans leur cour. Les ventes de mangeoires spécialisées, de nichoirs, de graines variées, d’abreuvoirs, de plantes diverses et de bains d’oiseaux sont en progression constante. On n’hésite pas à s’acheter des jumelles plus ou moins coûteuses. Des revues et de nombreux livres traitant du sujet sont maintenant offerts au consommateur. Read more
