In dit boek vertelt dierenarts Joyce Hofman opvallende, grappige, ontroerende, ontluisterende en bizarre verhalen over situaties die ze met dieren én hun baasjes meemaakt in haar praktijk. Een baasje dat zijn zojuist voor 500 euro geopereerde konijn komt ophalen en bij het afrekenen een zakje konijnenvlees voor zijn hond meeneemt. De man die een orthopeed voor 4000 euro de gebroken poot van zijn kat weer in elkaar laat zetten. De vrouw die met haar goudvissen in een plastic opbergbox in de tram kriskras door de stad gaat om te laten checken waarom ze zo `raar’ zwemmen. Dwergkeesjes met een volledige eigen spa thuis. Elke patiënt is anders, net als elke eigenaar. Elke situatie vergt dus een andere aanpak. Behalve verhalen uit de praktijk schrijft dierenarts Joyce Hofman over ethische kwesties en de fascinerende relatie tussen mens en dier en hoe die zich door de jaren heen ontwikkeld heeft.
